further production shots

Last week we had the lovely and talented Idil Sukan in the rehearsal room to take some shots of our progress. Here are the beautifully rendered results.

Four stages of cruelty up and running!

After four weeks of rehearsal we had our first preview last night to a lovely and almost sold out Arcola audience. Reactions seemed to be extremely positive and we're grateful to everyone who came down and bought tickets. It was a great atmosphere to launch a show into.

Rehearsals nearly over

We had our final day of rehearsals on Friday finishing off two weeks at The Rag Factory. Here are some shots from the final few days. We're heading into the Arcola tomorrow for 48 hours of technical fun before opening night on Tuesday. Remember the first ten shows (excluding Tuesdays and press night on the 27th) tickets are only £10 when bought on the phone. We'll see you at the Arcola!

Greening Theatre

Simple 8's very own Dudley Hinton and Seb Armesto blogging on the Guardian here. Really worth reading and a great insight into the green policies we adhere to during production of The Four Stages of Cruelty.

two weeks down...

On Saturday we finished our second week of rehearsals for The Four Stages of Cruelty. We've enjoyed a prosperous and comfortable fortnight largely due to the generosity of the church Our Lady of Hal in Camden. Our heartfelt thanks to them for lending us the space which has served us so well. We now move on to the Rag Factory to get a little more space in which to thrash out the details of the play and get it ready for opening night.

Here are some photos from the last day at the church.

Earth Day

As part of Earth Day (a very happy one to all) and our ongoing efforts to reduce the environmental impact of The Four Stages of Cruelty, we're aiming to reduce the carbon footprint from audience travel during the run. During our last production, 65% of audience members came by public transport, 32% drove and the remaining 3% walked or cycled. This time, we're aiming for 80% public transport. If you can come up with any clever ways of incentivising audiences to ditch their cars, we'd love to hear them. Cake has been mooted as one option.

Knowledge Conquers All

Last Friday saw the inaugural Simple 8 Quiz night at the London Irish Centre, a fierce contest played out of over the course of several boozy hours. The aptly named Luck O' The Irish finally emerged ahead of the pack and took 1st prize of Champagne, vodka, DVDs and of course, the legendary Simple 8 carrot cake.

Quiz Night Tonight - Friday 1st April

We're holding a quiz night at 7.30 this evening, to fundraise for our next production, The Four Stages of Cruelty. Hosted by none other than Mat Wandless, it's at The London Irish Centre, 50-51 Camden Square, NW1 9XB, and we can promise lots of prizes, crisps and Hogarth related questions. Come!

Sophies Barn

Here are some photos from rehearsals at Sophies Barn in Oxfordshire

simple8 Auction

Last week Simple 8 held a fund raising auction at Freshfields law firm and we’re pleased to say the evening was a resounding success.

These are a few pictures from the event and we just wanted to take a moment to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped us make the evening happen and give particular mention to the magnificent Russ Williams who hosted the auction for us and pushed it to a different level than any of us could have.
